Gábor Erőss PhD is a senior research fellow at the ELTE Centre for Social Sciences. He completed his university studies at Paris V René Descartes University, Eötvös Loránd University and Bielefeld University. He pursued doctoral studies in sociology simultaneously at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and at ELTE, and defended his dissertation at EHESS in 2003.

His main research areas are education, public policy and the sociology of health. He has taken part in numerous Hungarian and international research projects. Between 2006 and 2011, within the framework of a large international comparative study supported by the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Union, his research team examined the use of scientific and lay knowledge in education and health policies (Berényi–Erőss–Neumann 2013; Fernezelyi–Erőss 2014). His other research has focused on public policies concerning children with special educational needs (SEN), the problems of school segregation and integration, and church-run schools (Erőss 2019).

Over the years his research has been supported by postdoctoral fellowships from Collegium Budapest, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 2020 he was a visiting lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Education Sciences (LIRTES) of Université Paris-Est Créteil.

Alongside numerous Hungarian-language journal articles and book chapters, he has published in international journals such as the Revue Française de Pédagogie, Soziale Welt, the Revue Sociologie Santé and Intersections: East European Journal of Society and Politics.

He is an editor of Socio.hu and a member of the editorial board of the French journal Questions de communication.

Since the autumn of 2025 he has been a researcher of the MTA-ELTE School and Health Research Group, established within the Public Education Development Research Programme of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
