On 25 September 2026, at the Researchers' Night, our research group held an interactive programme entitled How are you? What do you eat? Eating habits and mental health of school students at the ELTE Centre for Social Sciences. Ágnes Győri, Gábor Erőss, Anna Kiss and Rebeka Kiss invited the audience into a conversation: at every topic the participants answered on their own phones, there and then, questions that also featured in our national survey of secondary school students this year, and we then discussed the findings by comparing their own results with the students' responses.
The conversation started from the eating habits of students and placed the Hungarian data in international perspective. It went on to food literacy, that is, how well young people can navigate dietary recommendations and food labels, and to the role of social media in seeking information about health. The closing part covered physical activity, screen time, body image and health complaints, and the ways these relate to one another.
The discussion with an audience of around twenty people, ranging from upper-primary pupils to adults, showed that health awareness and health literacy are not questions of age.
