Szilvia Ádám PhD is an associate professor at Semmelweis University and a supervisor at its Doctoral School of Mental Health Sciences. A sociologist and economist, she obtained her PhD in clinical medical sciences in 2009.

She has extensive research experience in studying children’s health behaviour and the psychosocial determinants of childhood diseases (Ádám et al. 2018; Major–Ádám 2020; Major–Vargay–Ádám 2025). In her most recent research she examined the effects of psychosocial and socioeconomic factors on mathematics anxiety among upper primary school students (Svraka–Ádám 2025). Her earlier research focused on risk factors for burnout (Soósné et al. 2024), the prevention of depression and suicide (Horváth et al. 2020; Tóth et al. 2017) and the management of workplace stress (Győri et al. 2025).

She has taken part in developing and leading numerous Hungarian and international projects and in designing and analysing surveys. Among others, she served for four years as national coordinator of the research project “Joint Action on Implementation of Best Practices in the area of Mental Health” funded by the Horizon Europe programme, and was co-researcher of the OMMF-11-0104 project, in the framework of which her research team developed an instrument for assessing psychosocial risks at the workplace.

She supervises seven PhD students, three of whom have already obtained their doctoral degree. Nearly 40 theses have been written under her supervision.

Her publication list contains more than 100 articles and book chapters, with over 750 independent citations. She publishes in prestigious international journals such as the Journal of Child Health Care, Frontiers in Public Health, Current Psychology, Health Expectations, Education Sciences and Stress and Health.
